Cookies

If you are a Mars Society member, and you have an account with us, and you log in to this site, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information. Login cookies last for two days. If you select "Remember Me", your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.

Our site is fully functional if you block cookies or delete cookies.  The cookie are only used for our Members Area which is an optional feature.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracing your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics on our site to analyze user activity in order to improve the Website. For example, using Cookies we can look at aggregate patterns like the average number of job searches that users perform. We can use such analysis to gain insights about how to improve the functionality and experience of the website.  Google Analytics makes use of cookies.

You can opt out of Google Analytics using their opt-out browser add-on.  This add-on instructs Google Analytics’ Javascript code on our site to prohibit sending information to Google Anayltics.  Updates to your browser or operating system may affect the functional of the opt-out add-on.  If you are not using Chrome, please check with your browser manufacturer to determine whether add-ons will function properly on the version of the browser that you are using.  The Google Analytics opt-out add-on does not prevent data from being sent to our website, but we don’t do anything with it such as saving it or using it for any other purposes.

We do not use Google Analytics Advertising tools or Remarketing tools at this time.

Who we share your data with

We do not share our data with anybody.  We'll repeat this: We do not share our data with anybody.

How long we retain your data

If you register as a Mars Society member, we retain the information you registered with permanently, unless you contact us and ask to edit or delete it.

If you leave a comment on Youtube, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.  So please leave any comments at your own risk!

For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site, or have left comments on Youtube, you can request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Where we send your data

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service, and through Youtube's standard spam protection services.
