ARES Analog Rover Project

The Analog Rover Experimental System (ARES) is a prototype Mars exploration vehicle that has been tested at the Mars Desert Research Station. That project is currently inactive.

Photo of ARES Rover at the MDRSThe ARES design is one of three winners of a contest sponsored by the Mars Society and is meant to fulfill the need for a low-cost, mobile Mars analog exploration test bed. The vehicle departed Kingston on Saturday, February 15, 2003 and headed towards the Mars Desert Research Station in Utah for testing in a simulated Martian environment.
