MPV vehicle Concept

MPV Image 1The MPV (Mars Pressurized Vehicle) is an airtight exploration vehicle designed for three (in emergency situations for four) members of the Mars Direct mission crew. Its purpose is to ensure the safety of the astronauts and provide conditions allowing them to work on Mars in the range of the minimum of 250 miles from the base for at least 45 days. On the 27th of March 2000 the head office of The Mars Society announced a competition to design a construction for an analogue, airtight crew vehicle for the Mars Direct mission. The vehicle would be then tested on Devon Island, North Canada, within the scope of the Flashline Mars Artic Research Station research program, along with the already existing simulator of a habitat. On the 31st of March, 2000, on the occasion of registering Mars Society Polska at the District Court in Warsaw (7th Civil and Registration Department), the participation of our branch of The Mars Society in the competition was decided.
